Football intelligence · Individual development

Game understandingimproves yourperformance.

Understand your contribution to the game. Give your individual development a clear direction.

Numbers tell part of the story. Understanding changes the game.

What the numbers tell you

  • Heat mapsWhere a player was.
  • Possession %How long the team had the ball.
  • Distance coveredHow far a player ran.

Limitations of traditional data

Traditional performance data is often too expensive and time consuming to collect, difficult to process and interpret, and fails to provide players and coaches with a clear, actionable development plan.

What Performance+IDP adds

  • Why a team succeeds or failsNot only what happened.
  • Each player’s contributionA positive or negative impact on the game.
  • A clear, actionable planWhat to work on next.

Individual Development Plan (IDP)

Traditional metrics do not explain why teams succeed or fail, and they do not reveal whether each player’s contribution had a positive or negative impact on the game. This lack of actionable insight led to the creation of Performance+IDP.

Follow one play.

One situation, four observations.

The board draws one sample situation, not a real match. Number 6 carries the ball under pressure. Number 8 scans, finds the space between the opposition’s lines and receives the pass. His first touch is heavy and runs towards the midfielder stepping up on him, but he still releases number 9, who came short and then ran in behind for the through ball.

  1. Scanning: look before you receive. Positive.
  2. Positioning: create space, offer an option. Positive.
  3. First touch: orient the first touch. Negative.
  4. Action: pass, dribble or shoot. Positive.

Four observations judged: three positive, one negative. An observation is evidence, not a judgement of the player.
